planning the first birthday party

we are kicking off birthday month with the very first birthday. first birthdays are so sweet and exciting. they can involve a whole host of people or just your immediate family. which ever route you go down, we’ve got a little inspiration to send your way.

-details: invite your favorite people to the party with some really fun invitations like this one from tiny prints. you can create an amazing photobooth back drop to capture all of your little (and big) guests. we love this tutorial for a hot air balloon photobooth.

-food + drink: we love joni’s idea of creating a menu based on your little one’s favorite foods. she took favorites like sweet potatoes and bananas and put a party spin on them. she had sweet potato chips for guests as well as individual servings of banana pudding. yum! see vivi’s party here.

for tiny hands, these mini bottles of water and milk in a box are perfect.

-party ideas: throw a backyard party like this vintage-inspired one. Typically at the first birthday there are a lot of adults, so a backyard party is a great/casual way to celebrate. keep things kid and adult friendly with an array of beverages, a cake that will make everyone happy (see below), and even a slideshow of the year’s highlights!

this flowering garden cake was taken from the birthday cakes for kids book (available at the shop) and we love this idea of a cupcake/cake combo. a perfect and adorable way to please a crowd! happy planning!
